【TW-429519】天燈 FLYING LANTERNS

Postcard ID:TW-429519 to Netherlands
Distance: 9,400 km (5,841 miles)
Travel time: 10 days

I bought this postcard when I visited the exhibition about Disney with one of my friends who I have known since I was an elementary school student.
The girl in the postcard is Rapunzel, the heroine in the movie, or in the fairy tale, "Tangled."
I believe that everybody knows this widespread and famous story, so let's skip it here.
But if you haven't seen the file and you are interested in the movie, you can watch their trailer.
Or you already watched the movie, you can check out this funny featurette
.

The flying lanterns, or the sky lanterns,  play the important roles in Tangled, and that is exactly what we are going to talk about in this article.
Flying lanterns are real!! The people do launch flying lanterns in Taiwan on 元宵節(Lantern Festivals.)
It's said that during Three-Kingdom Period, 諸葛亮(Zhuge Liang) was trapped in 平陽 by 司馬懿(Sima Yi). To break free, Zhuge Liang made the first flying lanterns and attached the message on it, and it worked out! Zhuge Liang escaped from danger successfully.
And it's also said that during Qing Dynasty, the bandits overran in 十分 region. To escape being confronted by the bandits, the residents ran into the mountain area. After the bandits left, the people staying in the village launched the flying lanterns to inform those hiding in the mountain area of that it's safe to go home now.

Nowadays, people launch flying lanterns not to inform somebody of their safety but to pray for blessings; people write their wishes and launch them!
平溪(Pingxi District), Taiwan, are known for the ceremonies of launching flying lanterns.
Besides, flying lanterns are launched in many countries, including China, Japan, Thailand, Mexico, and Poland.

It's really touching to launch a flying lantern with the one you love :"))
The real flying lanterns are much more beautiful than they look like in the movie.
You should try launching one :))!

Google "flying lanterns" and you will find some beautiful photos!
Or You can check out some films about launching flying lanterns on Youtube :).

Btw, I like Flynn, haha!

星空 STARRY STARRY NIGHT

When I was a little little girl years ago, I saw a breathtaking starry night which couldn't be more splendid on a Moon Festival.
The Milky Way was shining, taking away my breathe; the moon was sooooo big and round, just like she would kiss me on the cheek.
Years after, however, I barely see a shining star in the sky.

Today, I am going to translate a Mandarin song called Starry Starry Night into English.
And there's nothing to do with Vicent but a Taiwanese artist named Jimmy Liao - the song is a namesake of a movie adapted frome his book "Starry Starry Night."

*When I was a little child, Mommy said , "If you can't fall asleep, look at the sky and find the most shining star. In that way, the wizard will  give you a sweet dream."*

Is the color we can't touch called rainbow
Is the embrace we can't see called breeze
Is the feeling a person feels when he miss another person called loneliness

Fate stole possibility, only leaving results
Time stole original intentions, only leaving ineffable difficulties
You came, and then you left, only leaving the starry starry night

In that year, we looked up at the starry starry night, having so many splendid dreams

Thinking that happiness will be eternal, just like eternal starry starry nights, keeping my company

Orion, Sirius, Vega, keep silent out of a light-year
Memories, youth, dreams, when did they fall from the sky stealthily

I loved, and then I become silence, driven by the current of the crowd

In that year, we looked up at the starry starry night, never thinking about the future after the future
When the story lost the beautiful dream and the beautiful dream lost the clue, we lost contact with each other

Why does this silent starry starry night look at my rolling tears queitly
If you were here, would you hug me

Counting the shining stars, counting the disturbances in my life
I realized that all what I gained would never as beautiful as a starrty starry night
It seems that I can touch the tendernesses in my hands and the smile faces in my memories
if I stretch out my hand

Is the color we can't touch called rainbow
Is the embrace we can't see called breeze
A person gets used to being alone.....

At this moment, I look at the starry starry night alone; the past before the past never changes
I can bear loneliness, and also can enjoy it - enjoy what I only have

In that year, we looked up at the starry starry night, having so many splendid dreams
At least, the memory will be eternal, keeping my company like eternal starry starry nights
In the end, only starry starry nights stayed, keeping my company like eternal memories

* In sleep, I knew the wizard led Mommy back. I looked at the whale which bobed up, and it led me looking at the starry starry night. The most shining one, smiled.*

Postcard ID:TW-389404
Distance: 9,497 km (5,901 miles)
Travel time: 11 days
Needless to say, Taipei 101 is the most conspicuous building in Taipei City, and it is definitely noteworthy.
Over 500 meters high (around 1700 feet), Taipei 101 used to be the highest skyscraper all over the world before 4 Jan, 2010, when Khalifa Tower was completed.
Shaped like a bamboo, Taipei 101 symbolizes integrity and progress in Chinese culture.
And if you are interested in overlooking the whole Taipei City, you can go to the 5th floor and then take the fastest elevator to the 88th and the 89th floor, enjoying the panorama.
Usually, lots of fireworks will be set off on Taipei 101 in Western New Year.
If you want to see what the fireworks looked like, there are some photos on Wikipedia.

【FI-1278148】米寶 MYMBLE

Postcard ID:FI-1278148
Distance: 8,108 km (5,038 miles)
Travel time: 16 days

Today, I am going to introduce what I receiveed from a very kind girl living in Finland on 28 Dec, 2011.

As you see, here are  a postcard concerning Moomin, a page of a Finnish textbook, and...

A football player card of Mesut Özil!!!!!!

When I received these things, I just couldn't help but screaming, jumping up and down, dancing, and singing :")))
She sent these things because I wrote I were always interested in how foreign textbooks look like and that my favorite football player was Mesut Özil in my Postcrossing profile.

Back to the first image, althogh I don't understand Finnish at all, the Finnish students seem to have to write the antonyms to finish the fifth part.

As for the postcard, though I didn't like to watch the cartoon Moomins in my childhood, I love the illustrations of the series of Moomin books!!
I LOVE THE POSTCARD!!!
BTW, Snufkin is my favorite character in Moomin.

ABOUT MOOMIN...

Moomintroll made his debut in the magazine Gram in 1929.
At that time, Moomintroll's creater, Tove Jansson, was only 15 years old.

Hi there :)! Today is Chinese New Year!!! And I want to share some Chinese New Year customaries with you, but today, I just want to keep my family members' companies much more.

So just let me simply introduce a postcard sent by me this time.

  Postcard ID:TW-437633 to Finland
Distance: 7,992 km (4,966 miles)
Travel time: 6 days

This is a map of Taiwan, which was made by a foreign missionary during the reign of 康熙(Kang-Xi)

It's easy to perceive the contrast between this old map and the satellite image of Taiwan which was taken today.

Where is the east part of Taiwan?
You can find that there are lots of mountains lying in Eastern Taiwan with the satellite image.
These towering mountains made outlining a map of whole Taiwan an arduous task.
That's the reason the old map is not complete.

Nowadays, Eastern Taiwan is the most natural part of Taiwan.
Whether you prefer mountains or seas, you can beguile your time with soaking yourself in Eastern Taiwan's beautiful scenery.

Finally, let's appreciate some beautiful postcards of  Eastern Taiwan as the end of this article.

暖身 WARM UP

I am Patia, going to translate some foreign stories which are not known so well by Taiwanese into Mandarin and introduce something about Taiwan in English, especially our beautiful aboriginal cultures, here :))
Oh, and I will also  write something about the postcards I received from all over the world here.
Nice to meet you!

As I am just a beginner, I may make some mistakes often. It's so nice if you can help me correct them! I can't thank you enough!

Hope you will like THROUGH MY RED GLASSES. Wish you all the best!
